Move the offending Mac OS X installer back from Trashes to Applications I had to make a bootable macOS High siera install, everyhing went well and it worked. I have found another solution in case rebooting in Recovery mode is not an option for you. Hold down Command + R to reboot into Recovery Mode. I then rebooted the Mac a few times to check that everything was working fine.
I just do not know if doing a clean install from Sierra to High Sierra is possible with FileVault enabled. Usually I just completely format my drive and install the new OS, like going from Yosemite to Sierra. So I also trashed that (which wouldn't trash previously). Usually this is not an issue because I never enabled FileVault, however, I did on macOS Sierra. I also found that somehow Previous System folder appeared under the Mac HD.
Hold down Command + R to boot into Recovery Mode. After install, the file would usually be deleted anyway, unless you move it to another location. Nothing at all except you would have to download it again if you ever need it. I found Rick's solution worked for me, but I've added a few more steps. It is safe to delete, you will just be unable to install macOS Sierra until you re-download the installer from the Mac AppStore. I was experiencing this problem after downloading High Sierra to fix a friend's Mac.
